Background
As in many Programme Countries, UN field personnel in
Tanzania are exposed to various health and security hazards that may result in
disease; psychological trauma and life-threatening injuries. Dedicated,
effective primary health, occupational health and emergency medical services
may mitigate negative outcomes of trauma, injuries and health complications
providing better chances for saving lives as well as for faster and better
recovery.
Under the overall guidance direct supervision of the UN
Health Manager, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services ensuring
high accuracy of work. The Driver demonstrates a client-oriented approach, high
sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of
different national and cultural backgrounds.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provision of reliable and secure driving services;
Proper use of vehicle;
Day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle;
Availability of documents/supplies.
1. Ensures provision of reliable and safe driving services
by: Driving office vehicles for transport of UN officials and visitors;
Delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items;
Supporting UN officials and visitors on administrative and
logistical issues,
2. Provision of reliable, timely and secure driving services
by:(a) driving office vehicle(s) for the transport of UN personnel, and
visitors (b) delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items to
authorized personnel, (c) meeting official personnel and visitors at the
airport, facilitating customs and/or immigration formalities when/as required.
3. Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned
vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes
of oil, check of lyres, brakes, car washing.
4. Ensures availability of all the required
documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory,
map of the city/country, first aid kit and necessary spare parts.
5. Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and
regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.
6. Provision of administrative and logistical services when
and as required.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
Secondary Education supplemented with a Certificate from a
Technical/Vocational School. Valid driving license – Class 'C'.
Experience:
Minimum three years' work experience as a driver in a
recognized institution with a safe driving record,
Adept in national driving rules and regulations;
Skills in minor
vehicle repair and mechanics;
Basic computer literacy as an added advantage;
Experience with UN or diplomatic or Government organizations
is an added advantage;
Experience in the rural areas in Tanzania region is an added
advantage.
Language Requirements:
Fluency in English and Kiswahili languages.
